KHA Submits Comment Letter on KanCare Extension
KanCare The Kansas Hospital Association recently submitted its comment letter on the one-year extension of the current 1115 demonstration waiver for the KanCare program. While KHA recognized that there continues to be shortcomings in the current KanCare program, the one-year extension is more acceptable than continuation of another five years under the current program. Further, the one-year extension should only proceed with careful scrutiny by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services of the state's compliance with provisions of Senate Substitute for House Bill 2026 that was passed by the 2017 Kansas Legislature. In addition, it was recommended the Governor's administration must resume their work of the Kansas Process Improvement Working Group to continue addressing the issues identified by the participating stakeholders. Lastly, KHA recommended that the Kansas Department of Health and Environment should be required to develop a KanCare Provider Advisory Committee that would meet regularly to allow KanCare providers the opportunity to provide direct communication to KDHE on the progress of changes needed for the program. The federal public comment period will remain open until Sept.10, 2017. Interested parties may submit comments online.
